The Blessings of Father Abraham

Are the blessings of Father Abraham available to us, the present-day Christians?

Someone once mentioned to me that we, the present-day believers are living in the dispensation of grace.  Father Abraham lived in the Old Testament time.  How can we share in his blessing?  It is not possible.

Let us move into the Word right now.  I would like to show you word for word in the bible that you and I are eligible for the blessing of Abraham.

Galatians 3:10:14

10  For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse; for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who does not continue in all things which are written in the book of the law, to do them.”

11  But that no one is justified by the law in the sight of God is evident, for “the just shall live by faith.”

12  Yet the law is not of faith but “the man who does them shall live by them.”

13  Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”)

14  that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

I like the Amplified Bible translation of Gal 3:10 that says “And all who depend on the Law [who are seeking to be justified by obedience to the Law of rituals]…”

How many believers today are trying to live up to the law? How many of us are trying to be justified by the law?  Do you not know that no one, not even one person can be justified by the law in the sight of God?  (Gal 3:11)

Moving back one chapter to Gal 2:16 , 21

16  “knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law; for by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified.”

21 “I do not set aside the grace of God; for if righteousness comes through the law, then Christ died in vain.”

The bible says very clearly that once we are justified by faith in Christ Jesus, we have the blessings of Abraham. (Gal 3:14)

No doubt about this.  I say again, you and I, Gentile believers in Christ Jesus, have the blessing of Abraham.

What exactly is the Blessing of Father Abraham?

Let’s look at Genesis 15:1

“After these things the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision, saying,” Do not be afraid Abram.  I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward.”

Genesis 17 is all about the covenant that the LORD made with Abram.  This is also where the LORD changed Abram’s name to Abraham.  (Abram means Exalted Father, Abraham means Father of many nations)

Genesis 17: 2-7

2  “And I will make My covenant between Me and you, and will multiply you exceedingly.

3  Then Abram fell on his face, and God talked with him, saying:

4  “As for Me, behold, My covenant is with you, and you shall be a father of many nations.

5  “No longer shall your name be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham; for I have made you a father of many nations.

6  “And I will make you exceedingly fruitful; and I will make nations of you and kings shall come from you.

7  “And I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your descendants after you in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and your descendants after you.

Genesis 22: 17-18

17  “blessing I will bless you and multiplying I will multiply your descendants as the stars of the heaven and as the sand which is on the seashore; and your descendants shall possess the gate of their enemies.

18  “In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice.”

The “you” here refers to Abraham.

  • What are your needs today?
  • Thank the LORD for His promise to make you exceedingly fruitful because you have the blessing of Father Abraham.

  • Are you lacking in finances?
  • Thank the LORD for “blessing I will bless you”

  • Who are your enemies today?
  • Commit them to the LORD for HE says you shall possess the gate of your enemies. (Gen 22:17)

Will God do what He says?

He put it so clearly in the book of Isaiah 55:11,

“So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth;  It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.”

Concluding with this...Interestingly, after someone mentioned to me that the blessing of Father Abraham is not available to the present day Christians.

On the very next day, I received a daily devotion email from my church and the LORD confirmed by His word that the blessing of Abraham is available to you and I.

Isn’t the LORD wonderful?

I did not argue with this person and the LORD so beautifully confirm His word to me.  Our God proven Himself and His holy word.  I immediately forward this email to this person.  I hope this revelation will dawn upon this person.
